FAQ

When editing, my underscore characters are disappearing from the screen, but they reappear when I print the document.  How do I fix it?

There is a very long, highly technical, very boring reason for this phenomenon!  Let it suffice to say that it is caused by Windows when it renders this character on your screen.  By the way, this problem is not unique to the ProCAT editor.  Microsoft Word and other true 32-bit software programs suffer as well.

This problem only occurs to single-spaced paragraphs that use Courier New font.  You can resolve this problem by installing an altered version of the Courier New font on your computer.

For your convenience, we have placed the updated font on your distribution CD.  Follow the instructions listed below to install the new font on your computer.

  1. Click on the Start button, select Settings, then choose Control Panel
  2. Double-click on the Fonts icon
  3. Click the File option on the menu bar
  4. Select "Install Font" from the file menu
  5. Insert your distribution CD into the CD player, then use the navigator to point to the fonts folder on the CD
  6. Windows will examine the content of the fonts folder and display the following dialog box
  7. Click on the "Courier PC" item in the "List of Fonts"
  8. Click the OK button to install the font on your computer.

For the above changes to take place; you must use "Courier PC" as your default font within Winner2000.

Follow the instructions listed below to select Courier PC as your default font:

  1. From Winner2000 main window, click on Production option on the menu bar

  2. Choose Preferences

  3. Select the "Default Transcript Font" tab

  4. Select "Courier PC" and "12 points" as the default font type and size

  5. Click OK to save the changes
