FAQ

How do you push the last stroke out of my writer?

Unlike the ProCAT® Flash, some electronic writers hold back, in their memory, the last stroke a user writes on their machine.  This feature causes an adverse affect in certain environments (i.e. closed captioning). The following table lists the popular machines that hold back the last stroke:

Writer

Delayed
 transmission

Stentura™ 6000/8000/8000LX

Yes

StenoRAM™ III,III Plus, and Ultra

Yes

Baron Transcriptor X™

Sometimes

Flash™

No

You can use the "Push" command during realtime to force the writers named above, to transmit the last stroke to the realtime software.

Follow the instructions listed below to add the Push command to your personal dictionary:

  1. Open the Dictionary Maintenance window

  2. Select Personal dictionary from the dictionary list

  3. Click the Insert button

  4. Enter a steno outline (i.e. PURB/PURB/)

  5. Press the Tab key to move the cursor to the English field

  6. Enter the following bracket command into the English field

[B:]

Click the OK button to store the entry in your personal dictionary.

Write the above outline anytime there is a pause in a realtime or captioning session to force the last stroke out.  Keep in mind that the Push command only works in realtime.
